Well…. we’re in the final stretch! This next week will be our last full week of school, and the week after I think classes are done on Tuesday or Wednesday, and we can hardly believe it! It really has gone so fast. I think we try to act like it isn’t very close, but that’s because it has seemed like it has been so far away for so long. I know I’m stressing out about finding a place to live in September. I don’t know if I’m not doing something right or what, but it has been really hard to find somewhere to stay.
I guess I didn’t really realize that Pocatello really is the “armpit” of Idaho. It’s a really old town and a little…. ghetto, to say the least. So I looked up a bunch of different apartments and such online, and I wrote down numbers. Most of the apartments I later found out are owned by Pocatello housing authority. They have one number, which I tried to call and of course it was an automated system that wanted an extension number for “the party you are trying to reach”. BUT there were no extension numbers online, so how the heck am I supposed to get a hold of them??! Anyways….
So we went to Pocatello on Monday when we didn’t have school, and we stopped by some of the apartments I had on my list. but we soon found out that the managers are all located for these apartments all in the same place, but we didn’t know where Pocatello housing Authority was. So that pretty much took off every apartment on my list. Then we went to the apartment complex that is on campus for married students. Hans talked to a guy in the program he is going into and he said he loved the place, and that it was a really good ward so we were hopeful.
But no one was there (probably because it was the 5th of July). I called the complex the next day and I found out that they don’t have any spots for this next school year, AND they have a waiting list that is 50 people long………………… yeah……… great.
I decided to look in Chubbuck, which is a neighboring city, that was nicer. I have found a complex that we would like to live in but it also has a waiting list, I feel like that is going to happen for every single apartment place I call! but of course, I’m going to keep trying….. I mean we have to stay somewhere! There are some townhomes that I would like to live in because they are really nice, but a little over budget. Although when I called about them, I was told that they usually have openings, so we’ll see! I have faith, and I feel like the Lord is directing us to the right place.
Well, that was long but now on to some better things!
Hans’ birthday was on Friday, but we were going to the reunion that day so I wanted to try to make the day as special as I could for him. I tried to make it seem like we weren’t going to do anything for his birthday and that I hadn’t bought him any presents, Which I think worked pretty well… although I’m not the best liar.
So I managed to get to the store to buy presents and stuff to make a really good birthday cake for him. I made the cake at Sarah and Jaren’s apartment and I kept the presents there. I made the cake on Thursday night, and it was quite the task. I told him I was hanging out with Sarah, and I was. But she also helped me make a cake for him :) We had to go to the store to get a few more things, and luckily Hans went to play racket ball for a while with Mat. ( I forgot to mention that Sarah and Jaren’s apartment is right across from ours so we had to be careful). Part way through I realized that I needed our kitchen aid mixer to make the frosting, but the door was locked and I didn’t have keys.
Jaren was kind enough to break into our apartment while Hans was gone and grab the mixer….. haha.
So I got home really late, Hans was not happy about that. He called and texted and I didn’t answer him because I was too busy, so I’ll try to communicate better the next time I’m gone for that long….. But I was grateful for Sarah and Jaren’s help :)
On Friday my family came into town, and we had lunch and got ready for the reunion, and Sarah and Jaren got to meet them. We brought the cake and presents over that afternoon.
Goofy
My parents got him 2 new pair of shoes (which he has been needing) and a new tie ( the perfect color !) I got him a new game that he has been wanting… can’t wait to try it out!
Here is the cake:
I was going to do a ping pong cake… but it was too difficult, so I did this instead. I painted a red plastic army guy, because I couldn’t find a superman in the store.
And I forgot to mention… Hans got an award! it is the Newel K. Whittney award, and not very many people get it….. the teachers nominate students.
Later that day we left for the reunion.
Krista made Hans and I out of playdough. haha
Yay! I’m not short!
about halfway we stopped to get the famous square ice cream!
mmmmm tasty
That night at the reunion ( the Schwieder family reunion, my grandma’s parents) we got to do a skit. Hans and I had the privilege of being Grandma and Grandpa Schwieder for the skit, because of our height difference. she was short and he was tall :)
Hans wore overalls and I actually got to wear one of Grandmas old dresses from when they were dating. We were worried because it was so small, that it wouldn’t fit. But it fit me perfectly… imagine that!
That night we played some games and just hung out. I have to say that they had the best food there! everyone made such great meals and it was a really nice place to stay, so fun.
we sang happy birthday to Hans that night too.
The next morning, after breakfast we headed up to a camp to go on a hike. We hiked up to a place that is special to my grandma. when she was 14 and at girls camp, some of the girls went on a hike and were struck by lightning. 4 girls and 1 leader died and many more were injured and saved. It is an amazing story.
So we hiked up the mountain I would say it was about 5-7 miles up and 5-7 miles down…. so we were tired because it was a long hike. My grandma made it up…. and told us the story, and it really was so amazing.
I took a shower as soon as we got back, and I think everyone wanted to take a nap, and we just hung out for a while
Grandma put on a tattoo… :) lookin tough
We had lunch and then got ready for the races and games.
Hans and I attempted to win the water balloon throwing contest, but I was a little scared of getting wet, so at the last throw I pretended like I was going to catch it… but then I ran away. You can tell in the picture….
yep, there I am… running away. haha.
That night we had a great dinner, and had an auction. Hans and I bought a few things, and then we left to go back to Rexburg! luckily the drive was only about and hour and a half. But it was late, dark, there were lots of deer, and to add to it all it started pouring down rain. Hans drove (thank goodness). I was feeling sick before we left ( like I was going to throw up) and it was a somewhat curvy trip, and I was really nervous about hitting a deer, So I fought the urge to puke all over the place the whole time, making it seem a whole lot longer.
I admit it, I’m a sick wimp. I’ve been telling myself for months and months that it is just in my head. But I’m really convinced now that it’s not. I am sometimes so hungry all the time and I can just eat and eat and not feel full, and then sometimes I will feel like I’m going to puke all of the sudden, and I don’t throw up, but I feel nauseous for quite a while.
No, I’m not pregnant. I think birth control is what is making me hungry and nauseous.
Anyways…. so all in all it was a great weekend! Now we are headed towards the home stretch, hopefully we will get graduation announcements out this week :)
