Halloween

If you didn’t already know, this weekend was Halloween, yay! I’m not going to be too wordy, but we drove down to Rexburg again on Friday for a Halloween party! My friend Kim was able to host it (Thanks Kim!). Before we went, I made some “Corny Cookies”

001

Well, they don’t look the best, but they tasted pretty good!

Sarah and I also made some Pumpkin rice crispies, which turned out very cute I think! (they were flavored with orange Jell-O )

All together

For Halloween, in the search for something cheap, we decided to be Indians, because I found a dress at DI and we just went with it. I couldn’t figure out what to do for Hans’ outfit so I put him in a brown shirt… he took off everything by the time we got to the party anyways… It was about $10 total!

Sarah and Jaren were so cute as a Bunny and a Magician!

I didn’t get many pictures of the party, but Becca (Hans’ cousin) and Brad came, and it was so good to see them!

Here are some more pictures…

It is good to go back and spend time with friends! I’m glad that we only moved an hour away and we can make the trip now and then. We do miss our old ward. It really is the best situation for couples! We have found it a lot more difficult to make friends here. It is still a work in progress ( I’m impatient, it’s only been 3 months) .

I really do believe in the importance of friends when you don’t live by family!  Making friends is not easy, but it is so worth it.

Anyways, in other news….

This last week was uneventful, except I got a job! Yes, I did have a job, with the midwives. They told me a few weeks ago that they didn’t have enough people coming in, or enough money to be able to hire another person.

Well… the person they did have working, stopped, and when they tried to do it by themselves, it was too crazy! So they came to me and told me they couldn’t do it without someone there, and asked me to work again! So, starting tomorrow, I’m a working woman! It’s only 2 nights a week, which works great for me because I have a lot of other things going on right now. And the pay is more than I originally thought!

In 4 days I'm officially done with my internship….. done with school!  In the next few weeks, I’ll be taking my certification exam… scary!

Hans is also doing well, still hard at work in school. He has some tests coming up that he has to take in other states, as well as a trip to Washington D.C. in January. I’m glad he is getting his masters, and that he found such a great program, that will provide enough (we think and hope) for our future family!

Some days, I wish we were living where we wanted, that we could do what we wanted and spend the first part of our marriage not having to go to school. But I am so glad that we are doing what we are doing!  In my personal opinion, it is smart to get an education when you are young, then putting it off and having to go to school later!

So although it isn’t the the most fun filled thing for us now, it will pay of in the long run!

We hope everyone else is doing well :)

This Week….

Hans is taking a nap so since I’m not really a “nap taker” per se  I thought I would take a chance to go over this weeks events!

There are a few exciting things that happened this week for us! well, as exciting as you can get for our every day life.

So. The first exciting thing that Happened for me personally this week was that I started doing clinical things at the Women’s Health Clinic!  Clinical things meaning that I got to work with the patients. I got to call them back, take their vital signs (Blood pressure, weight, height…..) I tested patients urine ( sounds gross, but not bad) I assisted the doctor in doing exams like pap smears, and post partum etc… My favorite part was giving people shots. I did quite a few flu shots, and one for pain….I did that one in the bottom :)

I also got to sit in on an Endometrial Ablation. An Ablation is a non surgical option to a hysterectomy. It can be done in the office, without undergoing anesthesia. It consists of burning the lining of the uterus (Endometrium). I would definitely recommend it if you are of that age! It’s something I will probably consider when I am past my “child bearing” years.

So, It was a good week for me, I felt like I gained more experience and I have a better understanding of  how things work in the office. I enjoy what I do!

Hans had a good week too. He took a couple of tests, and did a lot of homework and research. He is getting A’s all the time, I married such a smart guy!

We have slowly been adding things to finish up the furnishing/decorating of our home! Our dining room is feeling more complete. We added a chair (yes, we only had 3), a rug, and a tree. Here is a picture:

025

Yep, the new chair is the one that isn’t white. Haha. I would rather the table and chairs be dark wood. I was thinking about sanding it and then finishing it, but anytime I say “well, I could paint this, or fix that….” Hans objects to buying it because it is too much work and he would rather wait until we found something that we didn’t have to do anything to. The fact of the matter is, that is too long to wait, and sometimes near impossible to do when you are trying to be thrifty.  :) So we’ll see what happens to this table.

In other news, I got an Idaho License! It was a real hassle, and not something I wanted to do, but I did it, and now it’s over and I don’t have to worry about it.

I wouldn’t have gotten a license, especially since mine expires in about 5 months when I turn 21, but there were things that put me in this situation.

In about a month I’m going to be taking my Certification exam to become a medical assistant. To get that in my married name I have to have a government issued, picture ID that has my married name on it. Well, my license was a Colorado license, and it said Stephanie Smith. Great.

Well apparently in Idaho you have to take a written exam to get an Idaho license. So guess what I was doing last week? yes, Studying this:

015

It is actually pretty thick, and from previous experience I knew that I couldn’t just skim over it, take the test, and pass it. Although, so many people take it thinking “oh, I know how to drive, this should be easy!” Nope, I think every person that was in line with me had taken it, failed, and then decided to actually read the manual.

Good news, I passed, on the first try. Now I am officially on Idaho driver. Here is the proof, with a great picture and all :

018  018

Now I will have had 1 Oregon license,2 Colorado licenses, and 1 Idaho license. Isn’t moving great?

This week we also got a FREE couch! we have a couch in our living room already, but I didn’t feel like there was enough seating, and I have been wanting to get a loveseat to fill the space. Well, we have refrained from buying one, and I’m so glad we waited! They were getting rid of some of the couches from one of the rooms that Hans’ program uses, they didn’t know what to do with the loveseat, so Hans said he would take it! Well we were able to get it to our house, with the help of some people, and now it is sitting in our living room looking nice :) It was free, all except for the couch cover I bought to put over it.

006

Minus the wrinkles that I need to fix, I think it looks pretty good! It is really comfortable too.

I also made a fall wreath, which was fun. I found the idea online, and it turned out pretty cute I think :)

001

Well, that’s all for now!  Exciting huh? Well, my family is in Hawaii right now, and I wish we were there…. BUT Halloween is coming up, this week, and I’m excited! Stay Tuned…

Fall Nights

Fall is by far my favorite season!  I’m glad the fall season has come around! I haven’t been able to enjoy it much, because we have been busy, but this weekend we were able to have some fall fun!

Yesterday we took a quick trip to Rexburg! It hasn’t been that long since we were there but it was time to catch up with friends!

After Hans’ morning class (on Saturday, crazy) We stopped in Idaho falls to look at some things, and we were able to get Panda Express! We love Panda Express, and really no other Chinese food can compare (I guess it’s more American-Chinese). It was delicious.  When we got into Rexburg we were able to see the last part of Jaren’s football game, which was fun. Then we went to the temple with Sarah and Jaren.

After the temple we headed to the store to get some stuff to carve pumpkins together!

When we got back, we had dinner together (taco soup, yum)

Then we got right to carving.

We took all of the seeds out to cook ( I’ve never done that before) we thought it was a good idea. So I’m cooking them today, hope they turn out!

When we finished separating the seeds, they felt so cool to squish around! I know that sounds a little weird to say, but no one believed me until I had to show them!

Yes, we like to take videos…

The rest of the time we were there we talked and laughed, and had a good time, like we always do when we’re together!

We also took some cool pictures with my camera…

ghost-like. Well, we thought they were pretty cool anyways…

That’s about it for us! We’re working on making some friends in our new ward…. these things just take time, and effort, which sometimes we don’t have either of those.  We’ll get there! and after we get there, we’ll have to move again. Typical.

Things are going well. we are still just moving along! I’m getting ready to take the CMA exam to be certified, which I’ll hopefully take next month. Hans is busy with school work all the time. But we are blessed!

Breast Cancer Awareness!

Here is a  break  from your everyday activities!

I have never been one to be I guess “gung ho” about breast cancer awareness. I thought it was silly to buy the stuff with the pink breast cancer awareness ribbons and such, because it never seemed very important to me. Bad, I know.

caahw_breast_cancer_awareness

To me it would seem that breast cancer is just as important to be concerned about as any other cancer! But really, so many women get breast cancer.

Well, I work at a Women’s Clinic, and October is breast cancer awareness month. Mammograms, and yearly wellness exams are done weekly and daily. You can imagine all the “pink” there is going around. It definitely makes me be more involved in breast cancer awareness.

I’ll get to my point.

There are at least 10 OBGYN  doctors working in this office, so every October, each office gets together and competes by making creative bras.

If you will be offended by seeing bras and such, then you can stop reading now :)

I went to the liberty of taking pictures for your enjoyment :)
